Learning, Rehearsing & Performing with 'Twerammpon Traditional' group

Cape Coast, Ghana
April 2023

In April 2023,  Stefano had the opportunity to travel to Cape Coast (Ghana) and spend an intense month of folkloric drumming research and practice.
He attended daily traditional drumming lessons with master Odomankoma Kyerema Kwamena Pra, rehearsed and performed with his group 'Twerammpon Traditional' at a variety of public cultural events, and experienced the day-by-day local life and culture in the small village of Akatakyiwa and the fishing town of Cape Coast.
The traditional styles he had the chance to look at are Tokpe, Kpatsa, Bobobo, Atsiagbekor and Gadzo from the Ewe ethnic group; Adwoa and Kete from the Ashanti; Asafo and Fontomfrom from the Fante.

Furthermore, he went back to London with two unique Ghanaian baby drums to add to the drums and percussion collection at 'Chameleon Studio' and with a big package of audio recordings: from wide ambient/environmental sounds of surrounding nature and people's communities, to live music performances at outdoor events as well as the 'Twerammpon Traditional' drum ensemble multitrack recording sessions.
